How often should you wax?
In the last several years, waxing has become a common and widespread service offered at salons and spas. It has become every girl’s necessity and for some a beauty regimen. Waxing is a great alternative to shaving to remove unwanted body hair. Besides, it’s one of the most effective ways to get a smooth, hair-free skin.
Whatever the season, rain or shine, smooth, hair-free skin is in. As a matter of fact, even if you won’t be flaunting your bikini bod for months to come, one should start working towards maintaining a healthy, hair-free skin.
But how do you really know when it’s about time to wax?
If you have shaven recently, wait for at least three to four weeks before coming in for your wax. Make sure that you give your hair time to grow out otherwise, there could be hairs still growing beneath the skin that will only emerge soon after you wax, as not all hairs have the same growth stage at a time. That said, the ideal waxing duration should be once a month considering the time to grow your hair. In about three weeks, all the hairs should be visible above the skin. Then give them an extra week to grow out and voila! It’s time to get waxed. The ideal strand length for waxing is about one centimeter.
Red flags: Don’t wax if….
- you have your period. Waxing can be much more painful as your body is more sensitive in general.
- your skin is inflamed/irritated, or you have a wound
- your skin is sunburned. Avoid sun exposure 24 hours before waxing. Burned skin is sensitive, and can peel off in the waxing process (ouch!)
